Q: How can a small company offer such a wide variety of services? A: Our core staff is located in our corporate office. They are not our only employees, worldwide, The Calumet Group has over sixty employees. Our core staff is supplemented by a cadre of consultants, trainers, and subject matter experts that are used on a project-by-project basis. Q: What is the advantage of having customized training? A: There are many advantages. The most important advantage is that you get training that is designed for your facility, your operation, and your training needs. In our experience, employees respond better to training that relates directly to their work based situation, equipment, and/or functioning. The training is less abstract and more to the point. Employees can see a direct relationship between the training and their work responsibilities. Customized training, simply put, is more effective. More effective training translates directly to improving your bottom line. Isn't that why you are in business?

Q: You say that the Calumet Group doesn't cost you money, it makes you money. What do you mean by that comment? A: Training can and does make a difference. Through the years we have found tangible ways to demonstrate cost savings and/or improved profitability. We have been successful in documenting items, such as, reduced overtime, increased productivity, improved quality, and fewer unscheduled outages, just to name a few. Many training firms try to tell their customers that training is always a good idea, but have little to back up their claim. There are a few examples of our success in our section: Why The Calumet Group, check it out.

Q: When The Calumet Group develops training materials for my company, who owns the materials? A: This is a really good question. The ownership of the training materials, lesson plans, visual aids, and the rights to reuse or sell them is always a question asked by customers. The answer is simple. The rights to the materials belong to the person who paid to develop those materials. If you pay The Calumet Group to develop training materials, then you own them. If The Calumet Group delivers training that we have developed, then The Calumet Group owns the materials. This is basic intellectual property rights. The Calumet Group copyrights all of the material that we own. If you see a copyright symbol on the material, then you have not purchased the rights to the materials. If there is any question about this, ask us.

Q: Can you do the training at my place of business? A: Yes! Most of the training that we provide for our customers is on the customer's site. It is simply more cost effective for a company to pay the expenses of one instructor to come to the company site then to bring the workforce to the trainer. But the choice is yours. We will deliver at you site or at ours.

Q: Can you train my management to teach my employees or do I always have to use your instructors? A: The Calumet Group will train your employees as trainers or provide you the trainers you need. This is up to you. We have an excellent Train the Trainer program that has been used to train over a thousand instructors. Some companies find it easier to have their management team do the training. In those instances we can design the courses, develop the instructional materials, and train your staff. Some companies do not want to do the training internally, in these instances we can come in and do everything related to the training for you.

Q: What is the difference between designing and developing a training course? A: When you design training, you are deciding on what the content of the training will be. Once this is done you lay out the course outline, determine what training methodologies will be utilized, and how long the course or class will be. When you develop training materials, you are taking the next step. This is when the actual visual aids are created, support materials for learning exercise are made, training manuals are written, and all necessary copies are reproduced. At this point the training is ready for delivery.
